Sun Valley council votes not to take proposed 3% tax increase for 2015

The Sun Valley City Council voted on July 7, 2015 to decline a proposed 3% tax increase for the 2015 tax year. Council Member Michelle Griffith moved that “the City of Sun Valley not take the 3% tax increase this year,” and Council Member Jane Conard seconded; Council President Keith Saks declared the motion approved after a roll call vote.

The motion passed with four ayes and no nays: Council Members Jane Conard, Michelle Griffith, Peter Hendricks and Council President Keith Saks voted in favor; the minutes record no votes against. The decision came during an extended, section-by-section review of the proposed FY2016 budget that consumed much of the special meeting. The council did not adopt additional tax-rate changes at the July 7 session and directed staff to continue budget work ahead of a follow-up meeting on July 10, 2015.
