Committee votes to ask staff to study Market Street improvements following Columbus Avenue success

A committee member urged translating the momentum from Columbus Avenue into improvements on Market Street, saying "I'm blown away by the success of the, that we're seeing on Columbus Avenue, and maybe it's time to take a look at, Market Street, certainly the 100 block of Market Street." The member proposed an open-ended study so staff could perform fact-finding and recommend options rather than being constrained by prescriptive instructions.

Another member made a motion that the body recommend the city manager and staff study possibilities to improve Market Street; the motion was seconded and carried on a voice vote. Staff said a recently updated commercial property maintenance ordinance and the downtown plan envision phased streetscape work, but short-term funding for Market Street was not identified in the update.
