Commissioners seek answers on airport grant split with Groveton and funds for Groveton community center

Chair questioned whether the city of Groveton reimburses Trinity County for its 50 percent share of an airport grant and requested documentation showing ownership and financing arrangements for the airport. He said the grant had been discussed for years and that local officials need clarity on whether the county or the city is responsible for ongoing costs.

Separately, the chair raised a designated grant for a Groveton community center that was set aside two years earlier. He said the county has a limited window to spend the funds and argued against returning the money: "This money was designated 2 years ago for this 1 project," he said, noting local needs for a community space in Groveton. Commissioners did not vote; they asked staff to investigate reimbursement, ownership, and the grant's rules.
