Geneva-on-the-Lake council approves amended police levy resolution to correct collection dates

The Village of Geneva-on-the-Lake Council voted unanimously on July 31 to approve Amended Resolution 2026-57, which corrects collection dates and requests a 1.99-mill tax levy for the police department to appear on the Nov. 3, 2026 general election ballot for a five-year term.

Council President Matt Caudill moved to declare an emergency and to waive the three-reading rule; P.J. Macchia seconded both motions. Roll call votes recorded Councilmembers B.J. McMullan, Cynthia Dudeck, Angela Long, P.J. Macchia and Matt Caudill voting yes on the emergency declaration, the waiver and on acting on Resolution 2026-57.

The resolution text as read referenced Ohio Revised Code §5705.19, .191, .194, .21 and .26 for certification and collection-date procedures. Council took the procedural steps needed for the amended measure to be certified for the ballot after soliciting the county certificate indicated corrected collection dates. The council recorded no public comments on the item at the meeting.

Next steps: with the emergency declaration and action taken, the corrected resolution will be transmitted to the county for certification and the levy will appear on the Nov. 3, 2026 ballot if county certification proceeds as required by state law.
