Committee warns school district’s lumped CIP requests could confuse voters and budget reviewers

Committee members expressed concern that the school district had placed many projects in the same year—appearing as a single bond request—and that this presentation could make it difficult for both budget-committee members and voters to evaluate priorities. Olivia Wilcher, a budget-committee representative, said, “it’s going to be hard for both budget committee members as well as voters to see everything lumped in the same year.”

Members recommended emphasizing department priorities and noted that the school board retains flexibility to move projects earlier if funding permits. The committee decided to recommend the school CIP plan to the planning board while flagging that lumping projects may complicate voter understanding during a bond vote cycle.
