Association election results reported; validation deferred after no membership quorum

Steve Ransdale, the election committee chair, reported the tallies from this year’s director election and described turnout statistics. "John Latham received 1,503," Ransdale said, and he gave totals for other top vote-getters and noted total ballots cast were 2,492 (1,802 paper, 690 online). Ransdale encouraged online voting as quicker and less costly for the association.

Because the annual meeting did not meet the membership quorum threshold, the committee said results will be officially validated at a special meeting. President John Latham told attendees the lack of a quorum meant the association could not approve the 2023 annual meeting minutes or conduct any business requiring a member vote at the session. Legal counsel and board members confirmed there is no immediate legal consequence to delaying certification, but the association must hold a follow-up meeting to formalize the results. Steve Ransdale said replacement ballots and other election inquiries must go through elections@oceanpines.org.

Members in public comment urged higher participation and clearer guidance on eligibility and voting methods. Ransdale and a board representative walked through common causes of ineligibility (CPI violations, dues not paid by the deadline) and said the election committee will publish a full report to the board at a later meeting.
