Board to finalize ballot language by Aug. 26; staff to provide public education but not advocacy after deadline

The board discussed public outreach and the timeline for placing a facilities measure before voters. Sean said staff already planned farmer’s‑market events and other community meetings and that the Aug. 26 board meeting is the deadline to finalize ballot language for the fall or the May election cycle.

A staff advisor reminded trustees of the distinction between education and advocacy: board members can explain why they would personally vote for or against an issue, but district resources may not be used to advocate for passage once the ballot language is finalized. "You cannot use district resources to advocate for the message," staff said, cautioning trustees to limit district‑led communications to informational material after the cutoff. The superintendent said he will focus on education and community engagement prior to the statutory restrictions.
