Resident urges village to fix south storm drain after repeated basement flooding

A resident told the Village of Tilton board during public comment that water is entering their house whenever it rains because a south storm drain near a railroad communication tower has been damaged. The speaker said public works had cleared the line once but the drain remained restricted and that debris had fallen into a large hole left by buried utility work.

The resident described multiple incidents in early July and said crews came on a Sunday to break the drain loose but the flow remained slow. “But every time it rains, my house goes underwater,” the resident said, urging the village to determine whether the railroad or the village owns the affected drain and to secure permission to inspect and repair the line. Board members said staff would check easements and coordinate with Norfolk Southern if the pipe sits on railroad property.
