Tilton trustees debate recording committee meetings; some cite developer confidentiality concerns

Trustees debated whether to record all committee meetings to provide a record and improve board members’ preparedness. Proponents said recordings would help absent trustees catch up and confirm what was discussed at committee level. Opponents said recording preliminary negotiations with developers could chill candid discussions and deter prospective investors.

The conversation grew pointed at times; one trustee stated plainly, "I am not gonna record meetings with developers. I'm not doing it," highlighting the divide. The board agreed committees would continue to use minutes and that certain committee meetings (TIF/finance) already are recorded; staff was asked to review policies and return with a recommendation about which committee meetings should be routinely recorded and how recordings would be used.
