Residents and authors flag cell service and infrastructure gaps in Shandaken

Cell service and broadband surfaced repeatedly as a top priority from the plan’s surveys. Consultants told the meeting that cell and broadband access ranked second in the community responses and that the plan recommends strategies to improve connectivity and consider micro‑transit options for seniors and residents without reliable transportation.

Several residents and planning-board members raised practical infrastructure constraints for housing conversions, including small water service lines in hamlet centers and septic limitations outside sewered areas. The consultants said infrastructure capacity and site-by-site review will be part of rezoning conversations and future project-level approvals.
