Party ramps up early-vote education amid concern over mail-ballot deadline change

A delegate asked whether changes to mail-ballot rules could reduce turnout, and the DNC vice chair said the party is preparing for a potential Supreme Court decision that would require ballots be received rather than merely postmarked. "We have started that education process... to make sure that they need to vote early," she said.

She described a test run in which the party mailed postcards to party leaders across Washington to measure delivery lag: "In major cities, it was... 1 to 2 days. But certainly in the rural areas of our state, it was... 3 to 5 and sometimes even a little bit more." The vice chair said those findings are guiding a push to encourage early voting, using ballot drop boxes, and targeted rural outreach to protect turnout.
