Delegates press party on Eastern Washington strategy as Spokane county races draw attention

A delegate asked specifically about Eastern Washington and what the party is doing about critical local contests such as the Spokane County auditor and clerk races. The delegate said one candidate was a "last minute filing" and described the incumbent auditor as a known Democrat with a 20-year track record; the vice chair responded that state-party leadership has been meeting with local leaders and organizers to plan protection and pickup efforts.

The vice chair cited recent local successes, including a 2023 mayoral flip and a progressive majority on the Spokane council, and said the party is investing in training for precinct committee officers and in lifting local candidates and organizing. She named a local candidate the party met on a recent trip (Derek Sarley) as an example and said county-level offices can be effective places to flip partisan control.
