Delegates ask DNC rules committee to reconsider ban on ranked-choice in presidential primaries

Sharon Abreu and Michelle Kelso argued the convention should restore the option for states to use ranked-choice voting to avoid "throwing away" mailed ballots and to encourage continued candidate participation. DNC committee members in the room explained the issue was procedurally complex and arose from a new and expanded committee membership; some delegates urged that the matter be returned to committee for fuller review rather than blocked outright. Other speakers cautioned that the staggered primary calendar complicates implementation in a way that could concentrate influence in early states; advocates said technical fixes exist to ensure votes remain meaningful.

Delegates voted in favor of reconsideration on the final ballot; the urgent resolution prevailed with a substantial majority.
