Board approves amendment to architect agreement to improve public-facing district-office spaces

Trustee discussion and staff presentation led to approval of Amendment 1 to the district’s contract with 1966 Architects to expand the district-office improvement project.

Staff said the amendment refocuses the initial maintenance project on public-facing areas such as an expanded boardroom, integrated Zoom audio-visual systems, lighting upgrades, and a larger, more welcoming reception area with an adjacent conference room for family meetings. The amendment also funds programming and space planning for a potential second-phase renovation of the second floor.

Trustees emphasized the importance of addressing public restrooms and privacy and asked that steering-committee feedback be incorporated into final plans. Staff said exterior work (roof replacement) would begin in the coming weeks and that the bulk of construction for the district-office improvements was planned for calendar year 2027. The board approved the amendment by voice vote.
