City discloses tight federal grant timelines; SAMHSA street-outreach application submitted before full council review

Staff told the council they plan to submit three federal grant applications related to homelessness outreach, transit (FTA) and school violence prevention and asked council to approve submittal. Staff cautioned the council that changing federal turnaround schedules forced some applications to be submitted before full council review.

"Particularly on the SAMHSA grant, we only had basically 40 days from notice 45 days from notice to submittal," the meeting facilitator said, explaining that the compressed timetable required assembling partnerships and program scope quickly. Staff sought council approval to submit the applications and said they expect to hear back in a few months on award decisions.

Council did not take final action at this meeting on the awards; staff requested authorization to submit and said they would return with outcomes once notifications arrive.
