Commissioners unanimously authorize early purchase of nine sheriff patrol vehicles to shorten wait times

The Johnson County Commissioners Court on Friday approved a motion to let the sheriff’s office buy nine patrol vehicles immediately, a move the sheriff’s staff said would speed deliveries and reduce financing costs.

Judge (speaker 2) said the purchases would not change the county’s net budget position and that the auditor’s office had vetted the plan. A sheriff’s office representative (speaker 5) told the court the per‑unit delivered price is $52,148 and said the "total cost out the door is $86,734" once upfits are included. Sheriff’s staff said purchasing now would allow the county to "jump ahead in line" with vendors and avoid months‑long delays that follow the October 1 national ordering rush.

Commissioner Bailey (speaker 4) moved to approve the request and Commissioner Willie seconded; the court carried the motion unanimously. The judge said the auditor and his office would reconcile fund transfers to keep the purchase a net‑zero impact across the fiscal year.
