Sheriff: arrests after July 13 cannabis theft that removed about 280 mature plants

Michelle House told the committee she had promised to report new cannabis-theft incidents and said that on July 13 the county received a report of approximately 280 mature plants stolen from a commercial operation. She thanked industry members for notifying staff and the Department of Cannabis Control, and thanked sheriff's deputies for responding.

“This was a cannabis theft and approximately 280 mature plants were reported stolen,” Michelle House said. The sheriff’s office representative, Matt Urbanwell, told the committee he believed one or two people were in custody after a vehicle pursuit and said he would provide additional details to staff by the end of the meeting. Michelle said the case is under investigation and staff will update the committee as more information is available.

No additional public-safety actions or policy changes were decided during the meeting; the sheriff’s office indicated an ongoing investigation and follow-up to the committee.
