Council approves contract with White Peterson and appoints Matthew Johnson as city attorney

The Sun Valley City Council on June 21 authorized the Mayor to enter into an agreement with White Peterson Gigray & Nichols, P.A. for city attorney services by approving Resolution 2016-11. City Administrator Susan Robertson presented an updated version of the contract incorporating council-requested changes and reported staff had checked references for the firm.

Council members discussed the retainer scope and what travel reimbursement would cover; Council Member Brad DuFur asked whether travel would be reimbursed as time or only for expenses, and Council President Keith Saks interpreted the contract language to indicate reimbursement for expenses rather than billable travel time. Robertson said a contact at the firm had agreed to the council’s requested changes. Following discussion, the council voted unanimously to approve the resolution.

Mayor Peter Hendricks then appointed Matthew Johnson, of White Peterson Gigray & Nichols, P.A., as City Attorney. Council President Keith Saks moved to confirm the appointment; the council took a unanimous roll call vote to approve.
