Abutters tell New Ipswich board dumpsters and truck storage risk wells, traffic and property values

Multiple abutters told the New Ipswich Zoning Board that storing dumpsters and trucks at 285 Turnpike Road would create noise, runoff and safety hazards.

Brett Markham, who lives adjacent to the site, said the property change is not reversible: "Once you allow it, it's allowed," he told the board, stressing nearby shallow wells and winter wind conditions that could spread debris and runoff into groundwater. Matt Lakosur and others described recent site alterations, erosion and a drain they said leads to Greenville’s protected pond.

Speakers raised both environmental and traffic-safety points: heavy diesel trucks reversing or stopping near the intersection of Routes 123 and 124, they said, could create a recurring hazard; residents also cited visible changes in the driveway and removed vegetation that have increased erosion. Board members listened and incorporated those concerns into deliberations about whether the proposed use would be contrary to the public interest and the ordinance’s intent.
