Board clarifies: home-office bookkeeping may be allowed, but vehicle and dumpster storage is not

After the vote the board clarified procedural limits for home-occupation activity on residential parcels. Multiple members said a standard home office — bookkeeping, scheduling and administrative tasks performed by a resident — typically falls within allowances for home occupations if it meets the ordinance criteria.

However, the board emphasized that the applicant’s request bundled a home office with storage of trucks and multiple dumpsters, and that combination was what led members to conclude the application was incompatible with the residential district. Board members said an applicant could pursue a separate, narrowly scoped home-occupation request if they can demonstrate compliance with home-occupation standards.
