Five‑year inspection finds recalled sprinkler heads, corroded piping; full replacement may be required

Administration reported that a five‑year sprinkler inspection identified many recalled heads and widespread corrosion in the dry‑pipe system supplying sprinkler heads. "A significant number, at least 0.5 of the sprinkler heads in here are on recall," the assistant town manager said, and she added that piping corrosion could necessitate a full system replacement. The vendor recommended options and administration said it does not yet have a final quote but expects a substantial expenditure that may be in the hundreds of thousands.

Committee members asked for a second opinion from an independent vendor before committing to any large appropriation and noted potential insurance implications if the system is not replaced; Walsh said she would share inspection photos and follow up with additional quotes and procurement steps and that the item is more likely to be considered for FY28 than FY27.
