Superintendent highlights special-education summer program success, AP gains and new assistant hire

The superintendent told the committee the district's extended-year programming for special-education students and open tutoring services had strong participation and positive feedback.

The superintendent cited AP participation: 230 exams were taken this past school year (up from 155 the year before) with an average score of 3.6 and 84% of exams earning a 3 or higher — metrics the superintendent framed as a sign of strong secondary-level performance that benefits the district as a whole. The superintendent also said Joe Plunska has been hired as an executive administrative assistant and described him as experienced and already contributing to central-office work while additional onboarding continues.

The superintendent added that they were returning to work after a hip replacement and expected to collaborate more with the new assistant as the school year approaches.
