Residents urge limits on e-bikes and scooters at Trenton splash pad after near-miss with grandchildren

Amy Humbert told Council she was at the splash pad with her grandchildren when two riders on the path nearly struck them, and she asked the City to consider banning electric bikes and electric scooters from the park area and to increase monitoring. "My grandchildren were almost struck by two riders on the path," Humbert said.

Lorie Blankenship added she lives near a hill where children riding e-bikes travel quickly without helmets and said the situation felt dangerous. Council discussed decorum and three-minute speaking limits but did not adopt a new park ordinance that evening; staff were not directed to draft an immediate ban during the meeting.

The request underscored resident concerns about park safety and the balance between shared-use paths and the protection of small children; no formal policy change occurred at the Aug. 6 meeting.
