Council holds first reading on purchase of 5721 Kennel Road for potential fire station

Law Director Nick Ziepfel presented an ordinance authorizing the purchase of the property and improvements located at 5721 Kennel Road in the City of Trenton, described in the meeting minutes as "approximately 2.6 acres." Ziepfel said the ordinance was before council for its first reading and that staff was not requesting suspension of the two-reading rule at this time.

Ziepfel told council the ordinance is drafted for emergency adoption and staff expects to request emergency adoption at the second reading on Aug. 20 so the city could proceed to closing; he said the seller had agreed to wait until that time. Mayor queried whether the property is currently outside the city; City Manager Marcos Nichols said it would be brought in as Public Institutional consistent with the city's interest in using the parcel for a second fire station or other public-safety purpose.
