Mayor honors 12U baseball team; board formally appoints junior committee members

Mayor Rebecca Giannelli opened the Aug. 6 meeting by recognizing the Glendale Heights youth baseball 12U team for an “outstanding season,” noting that the team “rose to the challenge finishing the season with an impressive 13 and 2 record and advancing all the way to the championship game,” an achievement she said deserved community recognition.

After the ceremonial recognition and photos with coaches and students, the board moved into business and unanimously approved a resolution appointing junior committee members to multiple village committees. The appointments (Resolution 2026-R-105) formalize participation by students in a new youth leadership program intended to introduce them to village operations and potential career paths in local government. Trustee Light moved adoption of the resolution; the motion passed on a roll-call vote.

The students introduced themselves to the board during the meeting. One student, Jimmy Harlandpopulis, said he attends Glenbard West and is excited to be more involved in the community. Village staff described the program as a partnership intended to develop civic engagement and “pride of ownership” among local youth. Appointees will be listed in the public record as part of the adopted resolution.
