Residents criticize lack of notification for curb and utility work; public works says notices were missed

Multiple residents used public comment time to press the village on communication and contractor practices for current curb and utility work. At length, Marietta Bridal described construction crews entering yards without notice, leaving unsafe materials and straps, and disrupting access for seniors and disabled residents. She said some neighbors had to leave their homes temporarily and described damage to private driveway improvements, calling for better advance notice and accommodation for residents who need parking or ramps during work.

Public works Director Jeff McCumber responded that the contractor was contractually required to provide one week’s notice and that, in this instance, notices for the street had been missed. McCumber apologized for the failure and said the village holds weekly progress meetings with the resident engineer and contractor and will address resident concerns. He advised affected residents to contact public works; staff said they would arrange temporary stone fills and other measures so residents can get in and out of driveways while construction is underway.

Mr. Epstein, a separate commenter, also thanked crews for prompt tree-and-street response after the recent storm and clarified that a reported automated camera was not in his neighborhood.
