Town of Porter approves $21,522 payment to cover unplanned paving

The Town of Porter voted unanimously Wednesday to pay $21,522.15 from the Street and Alley Fund to cover an unplanned 2-inch asphalt overlay after a contractor paved about one and a half additional blocks beyond the amount covered by a grant. Mayor Steve Dickey said the extra work resulted from a contractor miscalculation and that the town must cover the cost.

"Due to a miscalculation on the road project, the company paving the streets paved one and half blocks over the amount paid for by the grant," Mayor Steve Dickey said, adding the cost for the additional paving is $21,522.15 and will come from the Street and Alley Fund. Council member Norma Meyer moved to approve payment for the overlay; the motion was seconded by Lucas Beaty and carried with votes in favor from Meyer, Dickey and Beaty. Two members, Kevin Walker and Ryan Moore, were absent.

The motion authorized payment to cover the 2-inch asphalt overlay for the additional one and a half blocks; the minutes do not identify the contractor or provide further billing details.
