Residents urge leasing, inspections and transparency on Highland Lakes golf‑course proposal

Several residents spoke about the Highland Lakes Golf Course during the public comment portion, expressing opposition to a proposed purchase and recommending alternatives such as long‑term lease or park conversion. Enrique Lopez, who identified himself as a long‑time resident, said the city cannot afford maintenance and urged more detailed inspections before committing public funds.

"Now we're asking to buy the golf course again," Lopez told council, recounting prior local history with the course and warning of hidden maintenance costs, unknown sprinkler and irrigation conditions, and zoning hurdles to convert golf land to parkland. Gerald Perrin and other speakers representing golf supporters noted existing fundraising efforts and thanked staff for maintenance work underway.

Council acknowledged the comments and indicated property and purchase items (Highland Lakes Golf Course matters) would be revisited in executive session at the end of the meeting; no purchase decision was made at this session.
