Lago Vista council sets budget calendar, schedules special work to meet tax‑rate deadlines

City staff and the city attorney reviewed the proposed budget calendar and statutory tax‑rate deadlines during the Aug. 5 meeting. City Attorney reminded council that final adoption of an annual budget and tax rate must be complete by Sept. 30; certain voter‑approval thresholds and associated deadlines (if the council chooses a rate requiring voter approval) impose earlier calendar constraints.

"Wednesday, September 30, is the deadline by which you have to have done everything and approved your tax rate and budget and everything for the new fiscal year," the city attorney said during the discussion. Council agreed to convene finance‑subcommittee meetings and a special work session later in August to prepare the required taxpayer‑impact statements and to post the proposed budget and related URL ahead of public hearings.

Staff said an updated proposed budget document will be posted to the city website for public review in advance of the next council meeting and that staff will follow statutory posting and notice requirements as the calendar proceeds.
