Commissioners briefed on COLA, benefits and 10 new firefighter positions in budget

Ramona told the commission the personnel and benefits budget for 2027 is estimated at about $116.4 million and includes a 2% cost-of-living adjustment and performance increases of 1–3% (with an average around 2%). She said health insurance claims are projected by the insurer at $17.3 million but current premiums generate about $13.7 million and staff are proposing no premium increase for employees.

Ramona also said 10 additional firefighter positions were authorized and will be filled through existing vacancy savings. She noted retirement payments (RSA) are projected and that the city’s retirement funding level is currently at about 49% with outstanding debt considerations to be tracked.
