Gunnison staff to gather maps and records, return with proposed maintenance plan

At the close of the July 29 work session the mayor summarized next steps: staff will gather original pipeline plans from landowners (Mark and Hal were asked to share their maps with Dennis), search for any written record that the irrigation company formally divested lines, and return with a proposed map and draft memorandum of understanding that allocates maintenance responsibilities.

"We get that map together and maybe we as a city kind of go through and decide what we feel like we should be maintaining," the mayor said, urging collaboration between the city, farm shareholders, and residents. Dennis and others agreed to follow up with in-person verification of risers and valves.

Why it matters: compiling accurate maps, title/easement evidence and a draft MOU is the practical work the council must complete before it can accept easements, choose a metering strategy or take over parts of the system. The council did not vote on any transfer of ownership or assessments at the meeting; those are pending after the records review.
