Committee expands Downtown Social District to include Smitty and Pearls

The committee considered Ordinance 2026-284, an amendment to section 11-11-1 (Social Districts) that would expand the Downtown Social District to include Smitty and Pearls. Jeron Hollis, managing director, presented the boundary change and said the amendment would take effect on Sept. 1 to allow time for signage updates.

Hollis told the committee that funds are available in the citys current 2026-27 budget to support updated signage and that staff and Downtown High Point representatives would assist with implementation. Rebecca Chancellor of Downtown High Point was noted as present for questions.

Mayor Pro Tem Monica Peters moved to approve the amended ordinance and the associated management and maintenance plan; the motion passed by voice vote with no opposition. Hollis said the amendment adds property to the downtown district and authorizes city officials to execute the necessary documents.
