County authorizes transfer of nearly 12 acres at old Allegheny High School site to D.R. Horton

The commission voted to authorize the transfer of 11.87 acres of county-owned land, part of the old Allegheny High School site, to D.R. Horton under Resolution 26-18.

Attorney Beeman told the board the transfer is part of a larger land-development agreement and that advertisements ran July 24, July 29 and August 5; staff reported no written objections. Beeman said the authorization includes a 30-day period for corporate ratification by Horton; if corporate ratification is not provided by September 30, the authorization to transfer the land expires and the county can pursue remedies, including revoking the authorization after a cure period.

The motion to approve the resolution passed by voice vote. Several members of the public later urged fuller public presentation by Horton and raised concerns about protections for the county in the agreement.
