Residents press county on water billing and local flooding during public comment

Several members of the public addressed the commissioners during the meeting's public-comment period with issues ranging from water-billing clarifications to severe localized flooding.

Mayor Coburn disputed an earlier statement that his town had not been willing to meet and said he had met with county staff on April 23; he also provided specific water‑billing figures, saying the town has paid $678,273.76 toward water and that the billed water usage totaled $769,311.20, leaving a balance of $91,037.43 for water usage only. He said the town has proposed a $10,000 monthly payment plan and invited commissioners to a follow-up meeting.

Gary Miller described how his Hazen Road property flooded repeatedly, including a July 7 storm that filled his basement; he said ditches and on‑site ponds contribute to the problem and said previous county responses had been limited. Miller asked for follow-up and county assistance; commissioners asked for his contact information to pursue coordination and potential permitting solutions. Tony Frenzel also raised a separate bridge and roadway concern and staff agreed to follow up on inspection and repairs.
