Planning staff provided an update on recent City Council activity and items relevant to the commission. Staff reported that on July 27 the City Council approved amendments related to the Main Street Central/Expressway form-based code and changes to the 500 N. Urban Design District, and that applicants modified plans to add parking in response to commission concerns.
Staff specifically said applicants added 10 additional parking spaces (five near Building 1 and five near Building 6) and provided an informational plan illustrating where up to 83 parking spaces could be added, noting that adding those spaces would require tradeoffs such as limiting the use of overhead doors or outdoor storage. Staff said the commission's Aug. 18 meeting currently has no cases and is likely to be canceled; the Sept. 1 meeting is currently showing nothing tracked but could be scheduled if items arise.
Commissioners were told that Council requested minor code-language edits allowing the city manager designee to approve siding of accessory buildings in the Main Street Central Expressway code, and staff encouraged commissioners to review the Council packet if they want the documents referenced during the meeting.
