Representatives of the local ambulance service told commissioners they are state-compliant for BLS transport and have taken steps meant to address county liability concerns, including increasing liability insurance and obtaining federal registrations. "We have $5,000,000 policy. We've upped that," a service representative (S4) said during the meeting, noting the $1,000,000 state minimum and that the higher policy was purchased to ease concerns about outside assistance.
The ambulance representatives also reported recent regulatory progress. S6 described getting state controlled-substance registration numbers and completing the federal DEA inspection: "We passed, and we have now got our DEA numbers," which the presenters said will allow them to move toward ordering controlled medications under their own registration once the federal paperwork arrives.
