The Aug. 6 hearing included sharply divergent testimony on housing policy. Miranda Marquette, a local housing advocate, cited data she said show an increase in available housing units in Idaho Falls and argued that the townhomes will not be affordable to many buyers; she said the project's estimated price range ($300,000–$350,000) would still put mortgage payments out of reach for many residents.
By contrast, Colby Hatton of Stronger Idaho Falls and other supporters said denser housing such as duplexes and townhomes helps create entry‑level options and is necessary to keep younger families and workers in the city. "Entry supply anywhere in the city helps affordability everywhere," Hatton said, urging council to support housing supply. Councilors acknowledged both perspectives while noting their current role was to apply the ordinance's standards in this quasi‑judicial proceeding.
