Oakland County approves $300,000 to Savvy after platform surpasses user milestones

Oakland County appropriated $300,000 to Savvy Solutions for milestones two and three of a student‑loan assistance contract after staff reported the platform exceeded its usage targets. Chief of Staff Michael Andrews said Savvy had surpassed the prior milestone and reached about 6,000 new users since April, prompting staff to request milestone payments already anticipated in the contract.

Under the contract, milestone payments were structured at $150,000 each; staff asked the committee to appropriate $300,000 from unassigned fund balance to pay milestones two and three together rather than return later for separate approvals. Commissioners voted 3‑2 to approve the appropriation; staff said the payments follow contractual performance metrics and that Savvy had met the stated usage thresholds.
