Oakland County airports awarded PFAS and infrastructure grants: $327,660 for PFAS response and $96,843 for fuel-water separator work

Aviation staff briefed the committee on multiple grants for Oakland County airports. The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy (EGLE) awarded a $327,660 EAGLE PFAS grant to support PFAS response at Oakland County International Airport: $145,000 will pay to clean out one fire truck to transition to fluorine-free foam and the remainder will fund six additional monitoring wells and further testing. "The remainder of the dollars will go toward 6 additional monitoring wells and another round of testing," staff said, adding that the goal is to move from investigation toward remediation planning over the next 12 months.

Separately, the Michigan Department of Transportation awarded a $204,082 reimbursement grant for easement acquisition related to Approach 08 at Oakland Southwest Airport (95% federal/state participation, no local match), and the county won a $96,843 state-local grant to clean and assess a 35-year-old fuel-water separator at Oakland County International Airport. Commissioners approved accepting these grants and noted there is no local match required for the reported awards.
