Mayor to explore bond for Street & Path Fund as council weighs priorities

During the FY2018 budget work session, Mayor Peter Hendricks said he will begin exploring a bond to finance work in the Street & Path Fund and will notify residents if the City decides to seek financing for a November ballot measure.

Hendricks asked whether chip sealing needs would be eliminated if roads were rebuilt, and Street Superintendent Whitesell replied the city would still need to maintain roads annually. Hendricks said he would 'start exploring a Bond for the Street and Path Fund and will be sending out a letter to our citizens' about potential ballot language and timeline. Council members discussed timing, project prioritization and the interaction between capital road projects and routine maintenance such as chip sealing.

Council did not take a formal vote on bond authorization; the discussion closed with direction to continue planning and citizen outreach ahead of any formal proposal.
