Sun Valley council approves $12,015.30 change order for Elkhorn Fire Station remodel

At a Nov. 18 special meeting, the Sun Valley City Council voted unanimously to approve a revised change order for the Elkhorn Fire Station remodel totaling $12,015.30.

City Administrator Susan Robertson presented the change order and explained why a special meeting was necessary. Council Members Jane Conard and Brad DuFur questioned an extension of days; Robertson read the contract's delay provisions (Section 10.2) during the discussion. Council President Keith Saks said he believed the council "had no choice but to approve the change order." Robertson also reported that the project manager "was willing to cut off 3 days from the delay charge," a concession the council cited when moving to accept the revision.

After a brief recess so Robertson could clarify details by phone, the council reconvened at 10:27 a.m. Mayor Peter Hendricks, participating by conference call, said he did not want the project delayed further. Council Member Michelle Griffith moved to accept the revised change order in the total amount of $12,015.30; Council Member Brad DuFur seconded. A roll-call vote recorded AYES: Council President Saks, Council Member Conard, Council Member DuFur and Council Member Griffith; NAYS: none. The motion carried.

The meeting record shows no further direction on follow-up reporting or revised completion dates; Robertson had warned earlier that not approving the change order "could" further delay the job. The council adjourned at 10:35 a.m.
