Board highlights safety push: fueler inspections, movement‑area training and fire extinguisher guidance

Airport staff reviewed a set of safety actions spanning fueler inspections, driver training and hangar fire extinguisher guidance.

The airport manager (speaker 4) said mobile fueler inspections with Hendrick (the FBO) showed no equipment failures and good training records, and that follow‑up items are due by the end of the month. He referenced NFPA 407 as the standard for aircraft refueler equipment and told the board the city published movement area and non‑movement area driver training guides consistent with grant assurances; 17 city staff have completed the movement‑area training.

On fire extinguishers the manager advised BC‑rated extinguishers for fuel‑fire safety and said ABC extinguishers would not be permitted airside because they are corrosive to aircraft. A board member proposed researching a volume discount through the FBO for hangar owners, and staff said they would seek pricing and inspect hangars with advance notice; the lease requires an extinguisher but does not specify size, staff said.

Next steps: staff will follow up on pending inspection items, publish the training guides on the airport website and report back on potential group purchase/inspection arrangements.
