Landfill oversight: county reports 39,270.46 tons in quarter, host fees $126,004.88

County staff presented the landfill oversight quarterly report and noted the landfill remitted $126,004.88 in host fees for the quarter, with total tons at 39,270.46 and year‑to‑date tonnage at 68,626.99. Year‑to‑date host fees paid to the county were reported as $220,978.91.

Members asked whether the spreadsheet included extended service-area totals and whether Tazewell County had contributed tonnage during the quarter; staff said the highlighted rows indicated service areas outside the original 10 and that landfill records would be reviewed. The chair asked staff to verify source sheets from the landfill and the committee approved placing the quarterly report and related inspection reviews on file.

Staff also briefed the committee on inspection activity and compliance measures at the landfill, including a compliance commitment agreement for wind‑blown litter. Staff said mitigations — new defender fencing, movable windscreens and a nearly 30‑foot golf net installed at the eastern perimeter — have been completed to address the issue and that conditions of the agreement appear met.
