County schedules electronics recycling event Oct. 24; household hazardous waste grant pending

The Land Use Committee heard a recycling update on Aug. 5: staff announced an electronics recycling event scheduled for Oct. 24 with registration expected to open at the end of September. Staff said they had applied for a household hazardous waste event grant from the state but had not yet received notice of award; statewide sites already appear on the program website.

Committee members asked whether the state has confirmed any additional hazardous-waste locations; staff said they would check the state's site list. Staff noted that, if residents want to transport materials to a statewide site (for example, in Rockford), they are free to do so while the county waits for the state's decision. The committee received the update and will be notified when registration opens and if the grant application is approved.
