Remote inspections continue; July permits include two new single‑family homes

County staff updated the Land Use Committee on building inspection operations and permit activity. Staff reported that remote inspections with the contractor Safe Built "seem to be been going pretty good" though the department experienced a holiday-period hiccup likely related to staffing on the contractor's side. The department recorded one complaint that was worked out; most inspection coordination issues have been handled with permit applicants.

For July the department issued 42 permits, including two new single‑family homes and no commercial permits — slightly above the 10‑year average. Staff said inspection counts were lower in the month because of staff vacations and that building‑inspection work has continued with coordination among Safe Built and county staff. Committee members asked about building‑inspector expense lines and whether that budget item had adequate funding given prior expenditures.
