Committee backs reclassification of utility worker series to technician levels, with union review

Staff proposed a reclassification that would change the Utility Worker series to Utility Technician 1, 2 and 3 to better align duties and certifications and to create a lead/senior role. "This will also allow us to reclassify some employees that were put into positions without the proper certification," the Staff member said, adding that current lower-end job descriptions were vague and did not reflect actual duties.

Committee members discussed the placement of Equipment Mechanic and whether that role should report to plant operations or to the director of operations; staff asked that Corey review final placement and counts before the items go to the board. The committee asked staff to mark Technician 3 as a lead position between supervisor and Technician 1-2 and to confirm headcounts and reporting lines prior to publication in the board packet.
