Mukwonago board adopts updated ATV/UTV code, agrees to revisit hours after public input

The Committee of the Whole on Aug. 5 approved an update to the municipal code regulating all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) and utility terrain vehicles (UTVs), allowing the village to enforce violations and preserve authority to establish future routes.

Resident Jake Jagman urged caution and more study on timing and routing before finalizing all operational details, saying, “There’s been a big movement, a big push for ATV routes within the Guanigo.” Chief D'Amato told trustees the ordinance is a proactive code modernization "to ensure consistency with state law, and improve clarity for ATV and UTV operations," adding that the ordinance does not itself create or change routes but provides clarity for enforcement.

Trustees debated the hours-of-operation provision that Jagman and others urged the board to re-evaluate; several members supported approving the ordinance now to give police enforcement authority while directing staff to return with refined time windows. Trustee remarks and a majority voice vote carried the motion to recommend the ordinance, with direction to revisit hours and route placement at a future meeting.
