Government‑affairs director warns board of possible CPB funding rescission, urges continued advocacy

Jack Wheeler (S5), who leads government affairs, told the board he has spent several weeks in Washington, D.C., meeting with congressional staff and public‑media leaders amid reports that the president may seek rescissions affecting CPB funding. "There has been a, a rumor or a story ran last Monday. The president is preparing a precision package that would gut our funding," Wheeler said, adding that the rescission could claw back two years of CPB funding and may also affect the station's current funding quarter.

Wheeler described coordination with members of Congress and national public‑media organizations and outlined a roughly 45‑day window for congressional response if a rescission resolution is introduced; board members discussed alternative approaches, including seeking state block grants or pursuing federal earmarks through a change in the foundation's enabling authority. Wheeler urged board support for continued advocacy in D.C. and indicated staff will return with updates as deadlines and votes evolve.
