Planning commission approves amended site plan for Utah City Racquet Club clubhouse

The Vineyard Planning Commission voted unanimously Wednesday to approve an amended site plan for the Utah City Racquet Club clubhouse, moving the building to a more central position on the site and consolidating two small structures into one larger clubhouse that also includes storage space.

Planning staff recommended approval after reviewing the change against code. "We recommend approval of this application to amend the site plan for the Racquet Club clubhouse," staff said during the presentation. Staff told commissioners the change shifts materials away from the previously proposed shipping-container look to brick and Hardy siding, adds more windows, increases the building's height to match the surrounding scale, and leaves a blank north wall intended for a community mural.

Applicant representative Bronson Totten told commissioners the change came from operator input and a desire for visual consistency with neighboring development. "They prefer to have the storage with their office and and everything," Totten said, describing how the operator (LiveBall) influenced interior layout and the decision to combine the storage shed with the clubhouse.

A resident who spoke during the non-hearing comment opportunity praised the change. "I really think that the moving away from the shipping container look is an improvement, and I applaud them for doing that," the resident said.

A commissioner moved to approve the amendment "as presented, discussed," a motion that was seconded and carried unanimously. The approval was recorded as a formal action of the commission; staff will proceed with ministerial tasks tied to permit issuance and update site files accordingly.

The commission also noted optional next steps for public art on the blank elevation and indicated the city could offer suggestions to the private property owner, though final mural content and approval remain with the property owner.
