James Brummet, a resident of 423 Rocky Glen Circle, addressed the City of Murphy during public comment to protest a building his neighbor is constructing at 424 Rocky Glen. Brummet said the structure should not have received approval because the site survey and variance process were incorrect and that the city failed to inspect or enforce its ordinances before allowing work to proceed.
“We break a law to to to appease another guy, and that's bull,” Brummet told the council, saying he had called the mayor and the fire chief but saw no enforcement action. He said runoff from the new building worsened flooding at his property and expressed frustration that the fire chief’s objections were bypassed.
Council did not take action during the meeting to investigate Brummet’s complaint; the public-comment record shows his concerns were entered for the council to consider. The city did not offer a staff response on the record during that item.
